Bastet is a Scottish born rapper currently living in Manchester. He’s been rapping for around 4 years with starting off with poetry and spoken word. As a rapper with roots in poetry, he aspires to keep lyricism at the forefront of his music.
Two years ago he began MC'ing and co-founded Off-Licence sessions, an events organisation where DJ’s and Bastet perform sets in Off-Licences, embracing the local community culture. Since creating this space, Bastet has started to diversify his sound to encompass dance music.
Working with London based producer BNMO, Bastet has been specialising in UK garage with laidback jazz sounds. Alongside this, he has also been focusing on hip hop, working with an array of producers across the north.
With influences from Baby Dave, Mustbejohn, Killowen, Loyle Carner, Tom Misch, Pinty, Reeko, and Monster Florence; Bastet found his passion for making music himself whilst studying in Leeds, where inspirations Nix Northwest and Lausse the Cat used to live.
His recent single ‘Rum no Chaser’ (with BNMO and Megan Wroe) is an ode to old school garage and has seen playlisting from Spotify’s Fresh Finds UK and Ireland, UK Bass, and Summer Songs, along with radio play from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing.
Bastet is performing at Beyond the Music festival in October, and he had his debut Manchester headline back in May, after the success of supporting Master Peace at a sold out Night and Day in March 2023.
